Karlsruhe, July 8, 2026 — Nesto Software GmbH, provider of an AI-powered workforce management platform for the restaurant industry, today announced the appointment of Matt Baumgartner as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective July 1, 2026. Matt brings more than a decade of experience in restaurant technology, including six years at Toast, where he played a key role in evolving the company from an industry-leading POS provider into a comprehensive platform now serving more than 170,000 restaurants worldwide.
Felix Kaiser, co-founder and longtime CEO of Nesto, will take on the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO), focusing on platform architecture and product development. Together with Alexander Werling, co-founder, COO, and CPO, they form Nesto's leadership team.
At Toast, Matt served as Head of Product Commercialization and led Toast’s workforce management product suite, including Scheduling and HR. Previously he led the company's corporate development and strategy function. During his tenure, he helped launch and scale more than 15 products, helping Toast grow ARR from $50 million to over $1.5 billion, including through its IPO in 2021.
Matt Baumgartner has been working with the Nesto team as a senior advisor for several months and stepped into the CEO role on July 1, 2026. Matt’s experience building and scaling workforce management products for restaurants, together with his broader expertise in hospitality technology at scale, positions him to lead Nesto in its next phase of growth to become Europe’s leading workforce management platform for the hospitality industry.
Since last year, I've gotten to know Felix, Alex, and Theo, and I'm impressed by what they've built — not just a leading product, but a team and culture built on values I share. I'm honored by their trust in me, and excited to drive Nesto's next phase of growth together.
I know from my own experience how hard labor management is for restaurant operators, with last-minute call-outs, understaffed shifts, and labor costs misaligned with revenue. Nesto already solves much of this by deploying staff based on demand forecasted down to specific activities. Now we can go further: building an intelligent system of action that helps teams make faster, better decisions across labor, HR, and daily operations. As labor and food costs rise, top operators will increasingly rely on AI to run leaner, more resilient businesses. Nesto is uniquely positioned to help them unlock their teams' full potential — so they can focus on making great food and delivering outstanding guest experiences.
From the very beginning, our mission at Nesto has been to build technology that makes hospitality teams more efficient and more successful. Since last year, I have come to know Matt not only as an exceptional leader with deep industry expertise but also as someone who fully shares Nesto's values and ambition. I have great confidence in him leading our team as CEO, and I am very much looking forward to my new role as CTO, where I can focus even more on what drives me: building technology that solves real operational challenges in hospitality.
It was clear from our very first discussions with Matt that he not only has the right experience, but also fits perfectly with our culture and values. In him, we are gaining a CEO in whom we have complete confidence and with whom we can take Nesto to the next level.
Nesto develops AI-native workforce management solutions for the restaurant and hospitality industry. The platform helps operators optimize sales forecasting, workforce planning, automated scheduling, time tracking, and employee communication. As a pioneer in AI-driven workforce planning, Nesto was the first company to introduce an AI-based forecasting solution for the restaurant industry. Customers achieve average labor cost improvements of 8-10 percent.
Founded in 2017 by Felix Kaiser (now CTO), Dr. Theodor Ackbarow (Exec. Chairman) and Alexander Werling (COO/CPO), Nesto is headquartered in Karlsruhe, Germany. Today, the company's solutions are used across several thousand locations in the DACH region, by brands such as McDonald's Germany, L'Osteria, and Lagardère. In March 2026, Nesto closed an €11 million financing round led by growth investor Expedition Growth Capital.
